Território rural: o turismo e a multifuncionalidade rural em Arroio Grande, Santa Maria/RS, Brasil

ABSTRACT: There are new functions in rural areas that go beyond agricultural activities. Rural tourism promotes the appreciation of the environment, history, culture and contributes to the local spatial and economic reorganization. The aim of this study was to identify the presence of multifunctionality in rural areas in the District of Arroio Grande, municipality of Santa Maria / RS. The research is qualitative and exploratory, using semi-structured interviews. As a result, there was the presence of rural multifunctionality concomitant with tourist activities, agro-industries, handicrafts, artisanal knife factory, changing rooms, ecological trails, waterfalls, 'colonial' and / or artisanal products (cheese, salami, wine, cachaça) which aggregate providing new landscapes, revaluation and reinterpretation of the rural space providing opportunities for increasing income and quality of life for families
