This article presents a reflection on the work Dialectic of Enlightenment (1947), by Theodor W. Adorno and Max Horkheimer, starting from an approach about social relations mediated by technologies and mass media in the late 1940s. The reflection undertaken puts in focus the social changes that began even before this period and gained greater expression in the final decades of the 20th century with the so called “information technology revolution”. Considering the centrality of the theoretical social assumptions and the emergence of the concept of “cultural industry”, a reconstruction of the critique of ideology is developed in the Dialectic of Enlightenment, giving visibility to the potentialities and limitations of this production from the “paradigm of information technology” by the Spanish sociologist Manuel Castells.
