ABSTRACT: Exogenous intoxications, whether they are acute or not, are responsible for part of the damage caused to the health of patients who use drugs, which may be intentional or not, it is extremely important that professionals and knowledge about the risks of incorrect administration of these products. Given this, the present study aims to identify and synthesize the number of notifications of exogenous intoxications by medicines in the period from 2010 to 2017 in Brazil, in order to alert the population about the risks of incorrect medication administration and to raise awareness on this topic. For this, a retrospective cross-sectional study was carried out, where the data were taken from the Brazilian database of the Information System on Diseases and Notifications (SINAN), being evaluated as variables: sex, age group and Federative Unit (UF) of notification. The Southeast region of Brazil has the highest incidence (51.31%), where adults (20 to 39 years old) make up the most affected age group (41.03%), with the female sex being responsible for most of the notifications (70.35%) in the study period. This shows the importance of implementing public policies aimed at health education and of knowing the main toxic agents so that measures can be taken and there is a reduction in these cases.
