ABSTRACT: Feed formulation is a basic need in the animal feed industry. In view of this, alternative foods have been used as a way to minimize the cost of feed. Yam flour as a substitute for corn bran can meet the energy requirements of fish. The objective was to study the potential use of yam flour, in proportions that can add quantities of nutrients and conventional and alternative raw materials, in order to meet the daily requirements for juveniles of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). The experimental diets consisted of increasing levels of yam flour to replace corn, T1 = containing only corn, T2 = replacement of corn by 7.5%, T3 = replacement of corn by 22.5%, T4 = replacement of corn by 100%. It is observed that among the treatments 0%, 7.5%, 22.5% and 30%, the treatment with 7.5% of inclusion of the yam flour presented the best result in relation to the growth performance of the fish, when comparing with the control treatment (0%), this shows the efficiency of the properties of the yam. Corn bran can be substituted in 7.5% of the inclusion of yam flour without compromising the zootechnical performance of the fish.
