This research is based on the qualitative method from a functionalist point of view. The software N-VIVO Pro 12 was used to organize and manipulate the data that were collected from semi-structured interviews and analyzed using techniques, predominantly from quantitative research, namely: Pearson correlations and cluster analysis. The findings elucidate that the university products produced by higher education institutions in Alagoas have a strong correlation and, combined, have the potential to generate the development of the region. The combinations contracted research and specialized work, technological diffusion and education and new knowledge and new products and businesses were configured as possibilities in the understanding of the respondents.
