Infusion of aroeira leaves on the physiological potential of Leucaena leucocephala seeds

Abstract

Belonging to the Fabaceae Family, Leucaena (Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit) is a leguminous species native to Central America. The objective of this study was to analyse the influence of diferente concentrations of the infusion of Brazilian peppertree (Schinus terebinthifolius) leaves on the physiological potential of Leucaena seeds. The experimente was conducted at the Plant Science laboratory of the Campus of Agricultural Sciences and Engineering at the Federal University of Alagoas in Rio Largo – AL. The experimental design used was completely randomized, with four replicates of 25 seeds per treatmente. The L. leucocephala seeds were subjected to diferente concentrations of the Brazilian peppertree leaf infusion, namely: o (control), 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100g of Brazilian peppertree leaves per liter of distilled water. At high concentrations of the Brazilian peppertree leaf infusion, tthe variables first germination count, germination, and germination speed index were negatively influenced. The infusion of aroeira leaves has allelopathic effects on the physiological potential of L. leucocephala seeds at high concentrations.
