The most consumed leafy vegetable in the world, the species Lactuca sativa L. (lettuce), is cultivated in all regions of Brazil and is characterized by its susceptibility to attack by insects and phytopathogens. Among the economically important pest insects for the crop, those of the genus Thysanoptera (thrips) stand out, as they are vectors of a complex of viruses popularly known as "vira-cabeça," which are caused by various species of the genus Tospovirus (family Bunyaviridae), leading to symptoms such as mosaic, necrosis, deformation, mottling, and bronzing in plants, all of which influence reduced productivity in lettuce crops. Considering the aforementioned issue, this study aimed to compare the levels of control established by the application of suspensions of Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, a binary mixture of these fungi, and the insecticide imidacloprid in action against thrips. Average populations were compared after each treatment, as well as their control efficiency, and the duration of action of each treatment on the insects. It was observed that the suspensions of entomopathogenic fungi showed control efficiency above 50%, statistically similar to that established by the commercial chemical product (67%). Therefore, the entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana and Metarhizium anisopliae exhibit biological control efficiency comparable to the insecticide imidacloprid, demonstrating potential for use in conjunction with or as a replacement for this chemical product.
