Resumen

La gestión eficiente de los recursos hídricos es un desafío crucial para la producción de pequeños rumiantes, especialmente en regiones tropicales y semiáridas. Este artículo recopila y analiza las principales ecuaciones y enfoques utilizados para estimar el consumo de agua en ovejas, destacando la importancia del modelado matemático para simular los requerimientos hídricos. El análisis considera variables como la ingesta de materia seca, la energía metabolizable, el peso corporal, la temperatura ambiente y técnicas de estimación como la dilución isotópica del agua corporal. También se abordan las pérdidas de agua a través de diferentes vías fisiológicas y los efectos de la temperatura y la restricción hídrica en el rendimiento animal. La revisión demuestra que no existe una ecuación universalmente aplicable, por lo que es esencial adaptar los modelos a las condiciones ambientales, fisiológicas y productivas específicas. En este sentido, una comprensión integral de los factores que influyen en el consumo de agua es fundamental para formular dietas y estrategias de manejo más sostenibles y eficientes.
