It’s a national exam offered by the Unified Health System that is part of the National Program of Neonatal Screening, performed in children up to 28 days of age, with the purpose of detecting possible metabolic, genetic or infectious pathologies which are asymptomatic in the neonatal period. That if not treated early can cause irreversible consequences for the child's health. The aim of this study is to present the incidence of pathologies detected in the foot test in the Santana do Ipanema region. For the development of the present study, the health department of the city municipality was used as data source. Descriptive research method was used. The research was conducted from January 2014 to December 2018. The results showed that in the municipality of Santana do Ipanema, satisfactory numbers of children screened between the periods recommended by who were obtained. The pathologies with the highest index detected in the region during these periods were cystic fibrosis and sickle cell trait. Prenatal care is of paramount importance for the prior scheduling of the foot test. Neonatal screening, if performed effectively, brings benefits to children, families, professionals and society.
