ABSTRACT: The objective of this research is to understand the senses assigned to the practice of capoeira as a social language, in relation to the educational context. Based on the idea of informal education, this study, of qualitative approach, questioned, through semi-structured interviews, how the practical relationship of capoeira-education is understood by the local capoeira masters, subsidized by the technique of content analysis. The results were structured from analytical and empirical categories. The analytical ones pointed out relative approximations to social inequality, liberating education, and informal education, which brought up aspects such as the marginalization, lack of knowledge, and discrimination toward the practice. The empirical categories “capoeira” and “educational practice” have approached the discussions related to education within the scope of capoeira, evidencing senses that reverberate the rescue of social values, the strengthening of ties between peoples, formation and culture, and the emancipation of the individual, thus strengthening citizenship.
