The study aimed to verify the per capita production of solid residues from different residences in four municipalities in Alagoas. Excessive consumption of industrialized products becomes a major problem, as they are packed in non-biodegradable materials, which in turn cause severe environmental damage, in the same way, the improper disposal of solid waste is an aggravating factor for environmental collapses. The study performed a daily selective collection of household waste in four residences in four municipalities, in Arapiraca-AL, Jaramataia-AL, São Sebastião-AL and Taquarana-AL. At the end of each day, the material collected was packed in plastic bags and separated into categories (paper, plastic, glass, metal, organic and others), weighed and the values obtained recorded for later analysis. Of all categories, the organic part was predominant, with 63% of the waste produced, while metal constitutes only 5%, with a lower percentage of the material collected. The average production per capita of weekly garbage in the four residences was 4.429 kg and 5.105 kg, respectively. The solid waste from Arapiraca, São Sebastião and Taquarana is sent to the Waste Treatment Center (CTR) in the city of Craíbas, the waste from Jaramataia, is sent to the Santana do Ipanema-AL CTR. One way of reusing urban waste in the city is through the recycling process. As there is a greater production of organic material, it is possible to compost these types of waste.
