ABSTRACT: This research takes place in the rural areas of the high desert regions of Sergipe and aims to discuss aspects about the autonomy and empowerment of women who organize themselves associatively and produce accordingly to agroecological precepts. In order to better understand the social reality of these peasants, methodologically, we chose the Case Study at the Association of Women 'Rescuing Your History', the survey was conducted in 2015 and 2019 and had as main procedures for data collection: direct data, interviews with all the associates, conduction of a focus group and documentary research, a qualitative analysis of the information is used predominantly. It was found that the option of women for agroecology and collective work in the Association collaborates so that the associate can lead the organization of agricultural and non-agricultural productive activities and participate in the construction of the monetary and non-monetary income of rural families, which has contributed to the food security of families and, also, for an affirmation of these women as protagonists in the management of their ways of life. The social organization of women culminated in the construction of a collective identity where sociability, well-being and increased self-esteem of members are notorious. Thus, the process of associativism provides for the social, economic and political inclusion of women, and therefore, it can be considered a strategy in the search for autonomy, as it has made it possible for members to transform the cultural reality of a backcountry woman, overcoming adversity through the Association, where they started to experience the status of being the owners of their lives and express the feeling of empowerment.
