Uso de aditivos y compuestos secundarios en la nutrición de cabras y ovejas: una revisión de la literatura.

Ante la prohibición del uso de antibióticos como promotores del crecimiento en la producción animal debido a sus efectos secundarios y la presencia de residuos en los productos animales, surge la necesidad de desarrollar y utilizar sustancias alternativas que los sustituyan. Los aditivos alimentarios y los compuestos secundarios derivados de extractos vegetales se han utilizado en la alimentación animal como sustitutos de los antibióticos, ejerciendo funciones terapéuticas y profilácticas. El objetivo de esta revisión es presentar un resumen exhaustivo del uso de aditivos y compuestos secundarios en la nutrición de pequeños rumiantes, destacando su papel como estrategias nutricionales eficaces para mejorar el rendimiento y la salud animal, así como los retos que plantea el desarrollo de alternativas sostenibles, seguras y accesibles. Sin embargo, la eficacia de los aditivos en la alimentación animal depende de múltiples factores, como el tipo de dieta, la etapa fisiológica y la categoría del animal, además de las condiciones de manejo. Por lo tanto, la elección y el uso apropiado de los aditivos deben basarse en evidencia científica y ajustarse a las particularidades de cada sistema, buscando siempre un equilibrio entre productividad, bienestar animal y responsabilidad ambiental.
