ABSTRACT: Based on the intrinsic relationship between human beings and the environment where they live, especially the relationship arising from communities and ancestral populations, this paper aimed to correlate the available ancient historical information, which dates from the 17th to the 20th centuries, with biogeographic and ethnobiological information, as well as with recent historical and toponymic correlation attempts (dating from 20th and 21st centuries), therefore promoting discussion about the potential African origin of the term “Quipapá”, which has been regarded as the most appropriate.
