Abstract

ABSTRACT: Information on the type of substrate suitable for germination and seedling establishment is important for the propagation of species and recovery initiatives of degraded areas. The objective of this study was to determine the most efficient substrate in the germination of Mimosa caesalpiniifolia Benth. Four treatments were used, soil land, goat/sheep manure, bovine manure and chicken bed with 4 replications in each treatment. Hot water was used to break the dormancy of the seeds. The following variables were analyzed: germination percentage, emergence speed index, shoot and root length, stake diameter, shoot and root dry mass and seed vigor. The use of water at 80º C, combined with the intrinsic characteristics of the physiological and morphological quality of the seeds may have influenced the results. Another factor is that the seedlings were evaluated during 30 days, and this species has a slow germination index. Despite the short evaluation time, this study has the potential to continue the study, the substrate (T3) presented better results despite being statistically equal.
