ABSTRACT: The constant changes in urban green areas, caused mainly due to the urbanization process, have led to destruction and, consequently, damage to biodiversity. Understanding that urban green areas are considered as indicators of environmental quality, the objective of the study was to verify the willingness to pay of those who visit urban green areas, for the maintenance and conservation of these areas, tracing the profile of the user, analyzing their age, the level of education and monthly income and the view of users regarding the importance of green areas. The study is a literature review, and was used as a search strategy the databases Scietific Electronic Library Online, Web Of Science and Scopus, using the indexing terms “Green areas”, “Valuation”, “Environmental economics” , “Valuation” and “Green areas”, in the period from 2000 to 2020. Four articles were selected to carry out the study and 27 studies that did not contemplate the objectives of this review were excluded. By reading the articles it was noticed that most users of the green areas that were interviewed are men, considered adults, with complete higher education and willing to pay some amount to visit the green areas. However, the value attributed was relatively low, when comparing the income of the regulars and the level of education, there was also a rate of rejection by some respondents.
