This article presents the preliminary results of an ongoing Scientific Initiation Project (PIBIC) titled "Urban Planning, Master Plan, and Mining Activities in Rural Areas: The Case of Vale Verde Mining in Craíbas – AL," conducted at the Federal University of Alagoas, Arapiraca Campus. The project investigates the socio-environmental and urban impacts of mining activities conducted by Vale Verde Mining in the municipality of Craíbas, Alagoas. Focusing on changes in small rural communities, the study highlights the significant consequences of mining for local quality of life and environmental sustainability in the region, emphasizing the need for urban planning and the implementation of a Master Plan. Although still in progress and interrupted by a strike of federal faculty members, the study already underscores the urgent need for effective policies to mitigate the negative impacts of mining and promote balanced development. This work provides a more detailed understanding of the socio-environmental dynamics in Craíbas, highlighting the importance of environmental education and active community participation in political decisions to ensure a sustainable future for the local population.
