Abstract

This literature review showcases studies where Internet of Things (IoT), a network of interrelated devices that connect and exchange data, is integrated into the community development programs of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the Philippines. As we transition towards Society 5.0, a human-centered society assisted by digital technologies, it is imperative to evaluate how artificial intelligence, blockchain, and big data used in community-based systems have encouraged self-sufficiency and efficiency in communities. Sixty-two recent publications on this topic were selected based on the criteria authorship expertise, quality of the research design, and citations including general impact from prominent research databases. This research complements advocacy for strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing global partnership for sustainable development technology. Furthermore, it also contributes to the broader goal of integrating Society 5.0 principles into HEIs, aligning with national policies that emphasize the role of universities in economic growth and community development.
