La influencia de Facebook en la participación política de los universitarios desde el modelo de mediación cognitiva y comunicacional

Resumen

La participación política es un elemento esencial para establecer una democracia estable. Con el avance de la tecnología, los académicos sostienen que el uso de Facebook influye en la participación política. En Filipinas, Facebook es una de las plataformas de redes sociales más populares y se utiliza a diario por diversas razones, como para conocer y participar en cuestiones políticas. Sin embargo, la mayoría de los estudios en Filipinas que involucran Facebook o redes sociales se centraron en las formas tradicionales de participación en política. Por lo tanto, este documento tuvo como objetivo llenar el vacío examinando la influencia de Facebook en la participación política de los estudiantes universitarios en las universidades seleccionadas en Filipinas a través del Modelo de mediación cognitiva y comunicacional de Chen y Chan en 2017. El estudio empleó un enfoque cuantitativo no experimental utilizando un diseño de investigación exploratoria con análisis de ruta. El hallazgo muestra que las motivaciones para el uso de Facebook, como la orientación, la vigilancia y la utilidad social, están significativamente vinculadas a la participación política en línea y fuera de línea, mediada por el uso de noticias, la expresión, el conocimiento político y la eficacia política interna. En conclusión, el modelo de ruta indica que el uso de Facebook por parte de los encuestados influye directa e indirectamente en la participación política en línea y fuera de línea.
