Abstract

ABSTRACT: Among respiratory infections, the Flu Syndrome (SG) is characterized in patients with sudden onset fever, with cough, sore throat, and with symptoms such as myalgia, arthralgia or headache. The objective of the present study is to analyze the notified cases of SG and results obtained by a Public Health Reference Laboratory. This is a cross-sectional study, developed from the notification forms and notified SG results obtained through the LACEN-GO Surveillance Center. The Epi info 3.5.4 software was used to transcribe the results, analyze the variables contained in the notification form and the Qui-square test (x2). 645 SG notification forms and their respective reported results were analyzed. Most cases were between 21-30 years old, for the identification of viral etiology, RT-PCR was used. Regarding the epidemiological profile, most of the cases were male, non-pregnant women, with more than 8 years of schooling, not vaccinated. The main signs and symptoms were fever, cough and sore throat. The main comorbidities were chronic cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus. The main viral etiologic agent diagnosed was the Influenza A/H3N2 vÍrus. The epidemiological surveillance of Influenza through the cases notified by the sentinel units of SG, is an important tool for public health and has become the fundamental factor for the prevention, containment, surveillance and therapeutic management of patients.
