Abstract

ABSTRACT: Euphorbiaceae is one of the largest, complex, diverse and important botanical families found in the Amazon region. This family offers great economic potential, with more than 1,100 species, native and / or well adapted in Brazil. Euphorbiaceae species have great prominence in economic activity, through human food and medicine from popular knowledge. The genus Manihot, is part of a neotropical genus, composed of approximately 98 species widely distributed in Latin America and part of North America. Thus, this work aimed to verify the various potentialities that Manihot esculenta Crantz presents through a bibliographic review. Thus, searches were carried out on the electronic platforms Google academic, Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), PubMed, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS) and MEDLINE (International Literature in Health Sciences) and Scopus. For that, using a descriptive and exploratory approach, comprising the inclusion period of the last four decades. It was found that the socioeconomic importance played by cassava over the years is noticeable, and the need for the dissemination of new cultivation technologies that contemplate producers and enhance the production of this crop is still visible, offering great economic potential for the region.
