Abstract

ABSTRACT: Sideroxylon obtusifolium (Humb. ex Roem. & Schult.) T.D. Penn., Sapotaceae. It is popularly known as “Quixaba”, in the Northeast and Southwest regions of Brazil, the species stands out for its use in folk medicine, indicated for cases of inflammation and pain in general. However, as there are no specific bibliographic studies in the literature on the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of this species, from 2009 to 2019, this work aimed to present an integrative review (IR), addressing its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory potential in vitro models and in vivo, about the researches already inserted in the chosen databases such as: PubMed, SciELO, academic Google and in the CAPES Periodicals portal. This review is descriptive and exploratory, for Portuguese: S. obtusifolium and antioxidant and/or S. obtusifolium and anti-inflammatory activity. / English: S. obtusifolium and antioxidant, and/or S. obtusifolium and anti-inflammatory activity. The inclusion criteria were: complete scientific articles in Portuguese or English, the exclusion criteria were: studies that were in duplicate, those of a non-scientific nature, literature review on the species with another focus and paid articles. A total of (317) publications were analyzed, being (293) studies on Google, (02) on PubMed, (04) on SciELO and (18) on the Capes Journal portal. They were eliminated (302) for not corresponding to the work, totaling 15 in vitro and in vivo articles. Thus, it was found that the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities are related to secondary metabolites present in species.

KEYWORDS: Medicinal plant, Quixabeira, ethnopharmacological.
