Diversitas Journal, in its Volume 11, Number 2, published in 2016, presents to the academic community an issue dedicated to the theme Education for Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development, reaffirming its commitment to plural, interdisciplinary, and socially grounded scientific dissemination. This issue is situated within a context marked by profound social, cultural, environmental, and educational transformations, which call for new ways of thinking about education and its role in the construction of more just and sustainable societies.

The proposed theme emphasizes education as a central element in the formation of critical individuals who are aware of their local and global engagement and capable of understanding the interdependencies among peoples, cultures, and the environment. By articulating global citizenship and sustainable development, this volume engages with contemporary discussions involving human rights, social equity, environmental responsibility, and democratic participation, recognizing education as a transformative practice essential to addressing the challenges of today’s world.

In this sense, Diversitas Journal offers, through this issue, a space for in‑depth reflection on possible pathways toward an education committed to sustainability and citizenship from a global perspective. By bringing together contributions that dialogue with different fields of knowledge, the journal reaffirms its role as a vehicle for scientific dissemination and for encouraging critical debate, strengthening the collective construction of knowledge oriented toward human and social development.
